Alum of the Year

After graduating from Roberts with her BSN degree, Susanne obtained an MS in Nursing from the University of Rochester and a PhD in Nursing with a major in academic administration and adult health clinical concentration from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a certified Nurse Educator and Faith Community Nurse. Most recently, Susanne served as the Interim Dean of the School of Nursing here at Roberts and as a professor of Nursing. 

As a student, Susanne enjoyed spending time with her friend group, and was fascinated by what she was learning as she built her Nursing knowledge and interpersonal skills to form effective relationships with patients. As a faculty member, Susanne’s favorite memories are of guiding students through their courses and clinical experiences. She is proud of helping to start the graduate nursing program and expand the School of Nursing offerings here at Roberts.

As an alumna, Susanne was involved in starting the Parish Nursing/Faith Community Nursing ministry at her church, through which she conducted grief support groups, health fairs, home visits, blood pressure screenings, and more. She is also involved in her church through singing with the choir, serving on the board, volunteering in the nursery, and organizing the archives. She has taken groups of Nursing students to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, and Guatemala as part of furthering their education through short-term health-related exposure trips.

Daniel is the President and CEO of the United Way of Madison County in Alabama, where he provides servant leadership to 26 organizations through strategic direction, community partnerships, and fundraising efforts to impact the community in the focus areas of Youth Development, Healthy Communities, and Financial Stability & Resiliency. 

As a student, Daniel was on the Basketball Team and the Track and Field Team. His basketball team was the first to play in the Voller Athletic Center. Daniel’s other favorite memories of his time at Roberts include the “Mississippi Burning” campus discussion, attending chapel, and many fond memories of his time in Carpenter Hall.

As an alumnus, Daniel has been consistently involved in church, volunteering, and mission work. He is currently a member of the Church of the Highlands. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Huntsville Rotary Club and the Valley Foundation. Daniel is also a member of various steering committees and task forces for a number of community organizations in his local area, and has a long list of community involvement in other organizations going back more than a decade.
